Stress affects employees and companies
The latest studies show that stress has an impact on people and companies. For example, the ever-increasing number of absences due to stress-related illnesses can no longer be ignored.
Tackle it and make a difference for your employees and your success!
Take stress seriously and use the opportunity
Regardless of whether you or your employees are affected by stress, stress is increasingly leading to overwork and an increase in sick leave. As the latest reports from various health insurance companies show, the number of days off work due to mental illness has risen sharply and is currently at a new high.
8 out of 10 people in Germany feel permanently stressed. Are you or one of your employees one of them?
Then tackle it, because stress and the associated processes and conditions can be managed - just like any other challenge.
Constant stress puts strain on people and companies
Stress has often become a permanent condition - with physical and/or mental effects on the people affected. The high number of sick days due to mental illness speaks volumes: According to the current Psychreport from DAK Gesundheit, sick notes due to mental health problems have reached a new record: 301 days of absence per 100 insured persons. Compared to ten years ago, this represents an increase of 48%.
The number of days of absence due to stress-related physical complaints, e.g. from the area of musculoskeletal diseases or a weakened immune system, has not even been taken into account here.
Stress therefore also has economic consequences for companies. Due to the reduced performance of those affected, poorer productivity, higher error rates, increasing fluctuation, etc., the operational and financial impact of the high number of days of absence is immense.

What you can do as a company
Holistic stress management has various pillars. On the one hand, it is about enabling the affected employees to deal with their personal stress triggers and patterns. In order to then develop an individual change strategy and then successfully integrate it into everyday life. Helping people to help themselves is the credo here.
On the other hand, as a company, it is also about taking a close look and analyzing where processes, responsibilities, workload, management behavior, toxic behavior in the workplace, etc. are not optimal and thus contribute greatly to stress-related absences.
Because one thing is clear:
Stress management is not a one-way street for employees. Personal stress management is a must - no question about it. It helps the people affected to find their own personal stress management strategy and build resilience. With the aim of being able to manage stressful times better and more healthily.
At the same time, it is very important that you as a company focus on the overarching adjustment screws - namely precisely those that you identified as having potential for improvement during your analysis and which are not within the sphere of influence of the employees concerned.
If employees do not see any chance for fundamental changes in processes, the attitude of management/the company or toxic behavior in the workplace, their loyalty/engagement to the company drops significantly due to the lack of perspective, while the number of burnout cases and resignations increases sharply.
This is shown very impressively, for example, by the Gallup Engagement Index from the Gallup "State of the global workplace" study or a study by the McKinsey Health Institute.

View of the big picture
What can lead to long-term stress for employees and make them ill is, for example, the feeling of constantly having to be on call, of not being able to handle the workload, of having their autonomy severely restricted and of not being valued for their efforts. If this is the case, a yoga class, an inhouse health day, a meditation app or a regular massage cannot solve this problem.
It makes more sense to take a systemic approach, to look at the organization as a whole and also to change something about the structures.
